Marshall Kitchen/Carport: The design mandate was
to create a highly functional layout that incorporated
enough counter space for two cooks without adding additional
square footage, enough natural light to work in the daytime
without additional illumination, access to outdoor
entertainment areas as well as the family room, and to
create an atmosphere that is welcoming, warm and could
highlight an art collection.
The outdoor space was attained by removing the old
carport and re-designing it to add architectural interest to
the back courtyard while incorporating the garage and the
house into a "clustered village" effect. While entertaining,
the automobile is removed and the entire area is used for
dining with tables and chairs while the curved deck
functions as a serving and informal gathering area.
