English Tudor Style Estate with New Gardener’s Cottage Addition and English Gardens
Our clients saw the oldest and grandest house in Claremont for sale and fell in love. They came to us with a simple question: Is it possible to remodel it to meet our needs? The home was originally built in 1929 and the years had taken their toll on this magnificent English Tudor Style estate. The owners dreamed of restoring it to its original grandeur but discovered that the foundation of the house was sinking under the weight of former poorly executed remodels. After a full seismic retrofit of the foundation, HartmanBaldwin restored, rearranged, and redesigned its interior spaces, staying true to the grand architectural style. New structures included a new 8-car garage and workshop, a new 1,300 square foot guest house, quaintly referred to as the ‘Gardener’s Cottage’ and a special English Greenhouse imported and placed in the center of two acres of the relandscaped traditional gardens.
